"The overwhelming belief is that we do not wish to see sports betting as the primary focus of our video game," NRL president Dave Smith said.

"Fans, and particularly young fans, should not go through excessive promotion of sports betting throughout matches.

"We want young kids to be taking pleasure in the abilities of their preferred team, not pricing quote the odds."

The broadcasting industry is anticipated to send a modified code to the Australian Communications and Media Authority, said the federal government.
